Distalization

 

Distalization refers to the transfer of movment to a more distal joint (closer to the fingers, away from the proximal or center line of the torso). 

Video Examples of Distalization

The signer here says something like “there is no wind”. 

 

When she signs NOTHING, the movement is produced by the wrists more than the elbows (which is typical of the citation form).
