Rapid Fingerspelling

 

In rapid fingerspelling, fingerspelled signs are often produced with alternations. That is, the letters do not appear in citation forms. Typically there are missing letters within the intended word.

The woman on the left fingerspells the English word, "initial". This is an instance of rapid fingerspelling in which letters may be omitted and assimilation (or other alternations) occur.
